Microbiology is the scientific discipline that examines microbes and microbial diseases. Microbes, small organisms that require microscopic tools for visualization, encompass bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. The discoveries of microbes and the realization that they represent causative agents of human, animal and plant diseases have transformed biological sciences and established the very broad foundations of molecular medicine. Antimicrobial therapies, vaccines, hygiene and antiseptic techniques are intellectual achievements that represent foundations for the current medical revolution. Apart from the contributions of Microbiology to human health, the foundations of modern molecular biology and genetics rest on research carried out with microbes. Basic research in Microbiology underwrites our effort for eradication of important pathogens, prevention of human diseases, development of gene therapies and the evolution of new strategies for personalized medicine. The Department of Microbiology at the T S Misra Medical College, Amausi, Lucknow seeks to meet these challenges. This website will inform you about our faculty and their research interests, our educational programs emphasizing undergraduate studies as well as ongoing events for microbiologists at T S Misra Medical College.

Facilities available in different labs are-

1) Bacteriology Lab- has facilities for isolation and identification of various pathogenic microbes and and determine their antimicrobial susceptibility by conventional methods in blood culture for growth of aerobic bacteria, anaerobic bacteria and fungi.

2) Serology Lab- it has

(a) Latex agglutination tests for ASO titres, CRP and Rheumatoid factor

(b) serologies for Syphilis, Enteric fever and Leptospirosis

3) Immunology Lab- has rapid testing for HIV-1/2, HBsAg, HCV, Dengue Antigen and Antibody

4) Mycobacteriology lab (Tuberculosis Laboratory) - has state of art facilities. Conventional culture is done for pulmonary as well as extrapulmonary samples.

5) Mycology lab procedures are

(a)Routine culture

(b) Identification of fungi with determination of their antimicrobial susceptibility by conventional method.

(c) Latex agglutination for Cryptococcus neoformans

6) Parasitology lab- identification of blood and enteric parasites along with rapid test for antigen detection of malaria and micrifilaria are available
